Dr. J. S. Rajkumar is a nationally acclaimed Advanced Laparoscopic, General & Surgical Gastroenterologist, widely recognised for pioneering complex, minimally invasive and scarless surgical procedures in India. He serves as the Chairman & Surgical Director of the Lifeline Group of Hospitals, with leading centres in Chennai and Hyderabad.
An exceptional academician, Dr. Rajkumar is an alumnus of Madras Medical College, where he achieved a rare academic distinction by winning 32 gold medals, including the prestigious Johnstone Medal, awarded to the best all-round student of the year. He later pursued advanced surgical training in the United Kingdom, specialising in general surgery and hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery, bringing global expertise back to Indian healthcare.
With experience of over 50,000 successful surgeries, Dr. Rajkumar has been at the forefront of advanced laparoscopic, bariatric, gastrointestinal, endocrine, and robotic surgeries. In recent years, he has led several landmark procedures, including rare Transoral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy (TOETVA), complex bariatric surgeries on international patients, and life-saving minimally invasive procedures for rare paediatric conditions, all widely covered by national media.
His commitment to preventive healthcare earned him the Atal Ratna Award (2025), presented in Delhi for organising free breast cancer screening for more than 8,000 women, a milestone that reflects his deep social responsibility beyond the operating theatre.
Dr. Rajkumar is also an Adjunct Professor at Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, mentoring young surgeons and shaping the future of minimally invasive surgery in India.
